The Mending Project, a site-specific installation and performance

Solo exhibition

In an ambitious, large-scale installation, Beili Liu creates an atmosphere of beauty and danger. Suspending hundreds of dagger sharp Chinese scissors from the gallery ceiling, Liu immerses viewers in an environment that suggests distant fear and looming violence. The hovering cloud of shears is softened, however, by Liu herself who will sit beneath the countless sharp blades of scissors and perform an on-going simple task of mending.

Beili Liu, Top 10 Exhibitions in Shanghai 2009

Chris Moore reports on the top 10 exhibitions in Shanghai in 2009, including Beili Liu's solo exhibition 'In Between':

Beili Liu: In Between, Elisabeth de Brabant This intensely sensual exhibition about transformation, memory and their relations was captivating precisely because of its lightness, most notably the work 'Lure/Return' (2009), involving hundreds of silk-thread poppies made of single-threads of coiled silk and hung from the ceiling, and which swayed gently in the still air of the gallery.
