Sky Bridge is the finale of the multi-year San Francisco Central Subway Public Art Project. It is curated and supported by the Chinese Culture Foundation of San Francisco. The installation transformed the Portsmouth Square Bridge, a signature architectural element situated on the edge of the San Francisco Chinatown, into a rhythmic, mirror-reflective pathway. Each individual red brick of the Portsmouth Square Bridge is covered using silver Mylar. The mesmerizing reflective surface brings into it the sky and clouds above, the urban buildings, and the Chinese gate. The river-like, light-filled pathway draws visitors to step into the stream of silver bricks. The viewers’ reflection and movement, in turn, animate and become the most energetic elements of the installation.
