Recall assumes a simple, double-sloped, one-room-house structure, an archetypal symbol of home. The installation is composed of approximately 600 hand-made, pure Paraffin wax strands, each measuring 1.5 to 2 meters in length. These delicate lines of wax can shatter at the slightest touch. Suspended in the center of the space. Recall draws an elusive image of a small rural house, referencing the artist’s birthplace—a small adobe house in rural northeast China. Through the fragility of the wax material, Recall speaks to our shared longing for home, shelter, and belonging.

Recall/Norway at the Hå gamle prestegard, Norway

In rural Chinese dwellings, people typically use a single light bulb to light the entire house. Recall/Shadow (Norway) made use of a single light bulb in the center of the piece. As the viewer enters the piece, their shadow influences the lighting and dimming of the space, becoming an integral part of the installation.
